The Government Internal Audit Agency (GIAA) is an executive agency of HM Treasury. Our internal audit function now covers 75% of central government, including 15 departments and over 120 arm s length bodies (ALBs). Our people provide objective insight so that central government can achieve better value for money for the public better insights, better outcomes.

As an Internal Audit Consultant, your main responsibilities will be:
- Experienced auditor sought to lead on the development of initial draft guidance notes in two areas root cause analysis and reliance on other assurance providers, including co-ordination of joint pieces of assurance work.
- Drafting the guidance will involve consultation with colleagues across GIAA as well as reviewing and drawing on available good practice externally.
- The role will report to the Methodology and Professional Capability Lead within GIAA and work closely with other members of the Professional Practice and Profession teams within GIAA to develop the required guidance.
You ll have relevant experience in:
- Have extensive experience in planning and delivering individual audit and advisory assignments to scope, quality, time and within budget, and therefore have a clear understanding of the role of clear guidance in enabling effective delivery of work
- Understand the overall role of internal audit and the process of providing ongoing assurance on the adequacy, reliability and effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes, including the role of and contribution by other assurance providers, particularly the first and second line, to the overall assurance landscape; and
- Demonstrate communication, persuasion and negotiation skills to a high standard, both written and verbally, with a track record of being able to develop a consensus and communicate results effectively.
- In addition, previous experience in developing and delivering written guidance is desirable, as is experience in undertaking root cause analysis on audit assignments and in working closely with other assurance providers during the course of providing internal audit services.
